Lewis Hamilton Ready for Fresh Start: A Fan’s Reaction

He cited personal reasons and a lack of focus as to why he failed to finish as well as he had hoped. He has been a part of the Formula One scene for six, going on seven, years. He does need to have a good season in 2012 as this is the final season in his contract with his team, McLaren. If he has a good season, he may be in a prime position to renegotiate an even better contract. It is not known exactly what spurred this sudden change of heart, but there are two things going on in Hamilton’s personal life that may have influenced him. Rumor has it that Hamilton is on the verge of a reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Nicole Scherzinger. Though the two broke up in October of 2011 after three years of dating, due mainly to scheduling issues, neither really moved on from the relationship. It is not surprising that they may be getting back together. The reunion has been speculated by media and fans to be in the works since shortly after the break up, it seems. Hamilton has also been criticized lately because of his perceived lack of support for former friend Adrian Sutil. Sutil was recently tried and found guilty of assaulting Eric Lux, one of the owners of Renault. He had wanted Hamilton to provide some support to him during the difficult time. Instead, Sutil and his father claim, Hamilton couldn’t be bothered and even changed his phone number so that Sutil couldn’t call him. Hamilton hadn’t done as well as he had hoped, but it comes off as a little entitled that he is so disappointed with a fifth place finish overall. He is a talented driver and he was likely distracted with personal issues for at least part of the season. Though there is room for improvement, as there typically is, it was not the disastrous season that Hamilton seems to believe it was. Vettel ran away with the season and that says a lot more about Vettel than it does about the rest of the field.
