Lewis Hamilton quickest on final day of Formula One test:
Message from fivefilters.org: If you can, please donate to the full-text RSS service so we can continue developing it.Lewis Hamilton topped the final installment of Formula One’s four-day group test in Jerez, Spain, on Saturday, posting the fastest time of the entire test. The McLaren-Mercedes driver and 2008 world champion set his best time of 1 minute, 19.583 seconds with just minutes remaining in the test. Force India’s Adrian Sutil was impressive in second place to wrap-up Force India’s first outing with its new car.The day once featured wet condition, this time in the morning, but was dry by mid-day.Rubens Barrichello was third quickest for Williams F1, followed by Robert Kubica (Renault) and Michael Schumacher (Mercedes GP) in the top five. Both Schumacher and his former Ferrari teammate, Felipe Massa, caused red flags when they ran out of fuel intentionally to give their teams a true baseline regarding their engines’ consumption, since in-race refueling is now banned. The new Virgin Racing team finally had a good day after experiencing a front-wing problem earlier in the week and failing to set a competitive time until Saturday. Lucas di Grassi was only ninth quickest of the 10 drivers testing, but his best lap of 1:22.912 at least demonstrated that the team is not an entire universe apart from the rest of the field. Testing resumes at Jerez next Wednesday. FORMULA ONE JEREZ TEST, DAY FOUR RESULTS 1. Lewis Hamilton, McLaren-Mercedes, 1 minute, 19.583 seconds, 113 laps 2.
