Hamilton leads 2010 Championship (2009 point System)*

Considering 2010 point system, the top 5 drivers are separated by mere 20 points whereas considering 2009 point system, they would have been separated by 6 points only, making 2010 championship battle one of the closest in F1 history. Driver 2010 system 2009 system Mark Webber 161 63 Lewis Hamilton 157 65 Sebastian Vettel 151 61 Jenson Button 147 59 Fernando Alonso 141 57 Felipe Massa 97 39 Nico Rosberg 94 36 Robert Kubica 89 35 Michael Schumacher 38 13 Adrian Sutil 35 11 Rubens Barrichello 30 10 Vitaly Petrov 17 6 Kamui Kobayashi 17 5 Vitantonio Liuzzi 12 2 Nico Hülkenberg 10 3 Sebastien Buemi 7 1 Pedro de la Rosa 6 2 Jaime Alguersuari 3 – The points system was partly changed to increase the gap between first and second place and that appears to have worked. It’s an improvement too, as it makes sense that the driver who’s won the most races should be leading the world championship. Red Bull and McLaren would have scored equally for World Constructor championship.
