The session was stopped for 10 of the final 15 minutes after spectators were spotted in a dangerous position around the Spa Francorchamps circuit. That was not the only hold-up as drivers were then kept waiting once more as a light at the end of the pitlane appeared to get stuck on red, leaving the frustrated drivers unable to return to the track for around another minute. The stoppages left just three minutes at the end of practice to register times, however that was still long enough for Spaniard Fernando Alonso to clock the top lap time. The Ferrari racer registered 1 minute 49.032 seconds, Adrian Sutil was second quickest in 1 min 49.157 secs with Hamilton’s effort of 1 min 49.248 secs third on the board. Hamilton’s McLaren Mercedes team-mate, and current world champion, Jenson Button was seventh fastest clocking 1 min 49.755 secs. The third practice session begins at 10am tomorrow (Saturday) with qualifying from 1pm. Sunday will see the race itself start at 1pm.
